Pictures, Words, & Inspiration

Words inspire.

Words like these help us realize that there are so many others like us and not one of us us alone, even if we feel as if we are.

For some time now, I’ve hoped to build a resource list for Girl Body Pride readers who may need more than the words on your computer monitors. This list is still a work in progress, but I can tell you that the non-profit behind this image will certainly be included.

Have you met the young women behind The Project Heal?

Project HEAL was co-founded by three teenage girls. Liana Rosenman, Kristina Saffran, & Becky Allen met while undergoing treatment for anorexia nervosa, helped each other to reach full recovery, and then wanted to help others achieve it as well. In the spring of 2008, they founded Project HEAL to raise money for others suffering with eating disorders who want to recover but are unable to afford treatment. Unfortunately, insurance coverage for eating disorders is severely lacking, leaving many unable to get the help they need.

Additionally, and equally important, Kristina and Liana have expanded Project HEAL’s mission by serving as mentors and consultants with the hopes of diminishing the societal obsession with body image that often contributes to eating disorders.

The Project Heal founders have been honored by Glamour Magazine and have this to say on their site:

We want to diminish society’s obsession with body image by encouraging girls (and all people!) to accept their bodies. People do not have to love everything about their bodies, but it is important that they learn to embrace their perceived flaws and ‘imperfections.’ We hope that by providing encouragement and support we can help those struggling with body image issues from developing full-blown eating disorders.

Words inspire. They connect us. Reminders such as this one help us to remember to treat our bodies with respect and kindness. Thank you, Project Heal.
